My Color Story

I live my color story. I live on a sand blow, less than 10 miles from Lake Michigan.
I am
The silver lake with diamond sparkles on every ripple and swell
Blue lake - green - grey - shifting - dark and mysterious and then sparkling and then transparent as glass
skin colored sand
driftwood
Sun hot and shimmering but not quite yellow in the silver blue sky
sunrises and sunsets over the placid summer silver gray water
waves that ripple gently against the sand and leave their footprints in the form of waves in the sand
waves that crash white in lacy froth, ruffles and fluff
white fog rolling over silver water
Even in winter it’s beautiful, but it isn’t part of me then. I really have no winter in me at all.

2010 Christmas Newsletter
Dear family and friends,
Even after all the family reunions and facebook conversations this year, it seems like there is still a little news for a Christmas newsletter! It’s been a year that has made wonderful memories.
January 23 2010, Crystal and Kevin got married. They met while they were both Fire Fighters.

“War of The Tongs ” Larry & Kevin get along great!
Larry has worked so much overtime at Gentex this year and yet seems to have even more energy and strength the more he works. He is the most dependable person I know, and the funniest!
Carrie and I (Peggy) spent the first half of 2010 working on a program for children that teaches gardening.
A grant made it possible for the Master Gardener volunteers to start a new youth program, YEP (Youth Education Program) where we could share knowledge by teaching children. I adapted, or wrote new lessons for 5 months of once a week classes and Carrie edited, advised, encouraged, and took over most of my true responsibilities. Larry worked and adapted to the situation, and wished for them to give his wife back to him!
It was a wild ride, but the kind that you try once and enjoy, after which you decide to never do it again! (I will work in the program again next year, but as a teacher, not as leader.) I am so thankful to be back to the job of wife, mother, homemaker, and of course gramma.
Carrie’s lawn care company has kept her busy all year and she includes our property in her work schedule too.
Kevin (our Son In Love) drives truck for a lumber company, delivering building materials. He also is a Fire Fighter, and so after work hours are often spent training, or at fire locations.
Crystal worked at daycare most of the year, along with still serving as a fire fighter.
When she found out fall of 2010 that she is going to have a daughter, Ruby Rose, she left the fire company, though I won’t be surprised if she eventually goes back to it when Ruby is older. Now that she is close to her due date, she’s left work and going to be a stay at home mom. THAT is the best job in the world!
Ruby Rose McConnell, waving hello.
(due to arrive mid January 2011) If, after that date, you see me coming with a gleam in my eye and a handful of pictures, RUN AWAY!!!!
Interestingly, Crystal was born June 23, Kevin was born July 23, they were married January 23. Wouldn’t it be fun if Ruby was a little late (I guess not fun for Crystal) and arrived on their 1st anniversary?
That’s the news.
Now, I’m sitting here at the old desk, remembering over the last year; looking at the old pictures;
- our parents, all dressed up and posed but still looking just like who they were
- our kids (3 now), frozen in time in childhood poses on ponies, & again in graduation and wedding pictures
- our grand daughter, showing us just the top of her head and her left hand, open and waving at us
Past, Present, Future Blessings for which we are so thankful and glad!

I think the rocks (and all God's creations) do sing His praises, constantly. Think what all God's creation is made of....atoms. Molecules. All those little elements (protons, neutrons) all spinning so fast, like tops. What do tops do as they spin? They make sound, they "hum". I think, if we could hear the molecules decibel level, the sound would be greater than the greatest pipe organ! I think God hears them. I think all God's creation praise God.
Once I stood looking at my In Law's rock house, when the sun was shining and the rocks were glowing, sparkly in spots, and throwing off warmth to me. I felt that they (each rock) were singing just beyond where I could hear it. That their tiniest element, the molecules, which were spinning, caused a great sound to rise to heaven. And that every molecule in every element of God's creation was also spinning, and making music.
That was after both Larry's parents had died. I remembered Pappy (L's dad) talking about gathering all those stones in the fields everyday as he came home from the sawmill. People said he had chosen each rock shape so well that almost every stone went into the wall with no need to chip or shape it. It was his true love gift (if not to his cantankerous wife, at least to the God he knew and loved). With nearly every rock he muscled into place and cemented , he must have scuffed his hands or knuckles, and left skin there in the rock crevasses. Skin that is made up of molecules and that spun and sang the skin part of the great music, in harmony with the rock part and the mortar part and..... well. I DO get carried away!

Computers
My new Emachine is set up completely different than the old XP, and I'm having to basically learn a new language! I miss my XP.
I really liked XP, but then I really liked all the operating systems by the time they were replaced! LOL! I remember (don't make fun of my age!) when my little Windows 3.1 died
and I got a Windows 95 and I HATED it! I wanted the old one back. Everytime I get a new one, I want the old one back. The only one I DON'T remember fondly was Larry's first, that you plugged into a tv, and it had to be programmed everytime you wanted it to do something. He had a book of complicated codes that he played with. HM. Wait a minute. I MISS that computer! It was the one he programed for my birthday. I got home from teaching, turned it on and the words to the song scrolled across the screen as a little beeping melody played in time to the words..."Happy Birthday to you...." awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
And the only game that computer had was Pong!
